According to Wikipedia “A habit is a routine of behavior that is repeated regularly and tends to occur subconsciously”. It means that we develop a few habits over time just by observing and noticing others but we don’t cultivate these habits consciously. Few habits perhaps related to genetics also, because as a kid we blindly follow our parents or people whom we like a lot. However, habits have a very strong effect on our lives and also the decisions which we take can change the course of our life.
Here, I want to outline a few practices/ways which play an important role in developing positive and healthy habits which help us to make sound decisions in our Life.

  1. 1 Self-Discipline


    It may sound easy to be disciplined, however, it requires a lot of effort, time, and energy to be actually disciplined. Before we proceed further first, we have to understand what this discipline is all about. It means doing those things which we are not accustomed to but doing these things can impact our lives in a positive way. Discipline or by practicing self-discipline we really need to work a lot on ourselves, we have to step out of our comfort zone. For e.g. waking up early in the morning, doing meditation, talking to strangers, etc.

  2. 2 Journaling


    Writing daily about something especially related to our goals, routine(s) will motivate us to be more disciplined and have clarity of thoughts. It helps us to become more focused and also dealing with problems/taking tough decisions in a more professional way by weighing different options.

  3. 3 Support System


    “We are the average of the five people we spend the most time with” as quoted by Jim Rohn. 

    It includes our family, friends, and a few very close relatives. These are the people who are with us through our thick and thin. In order to become successful in life, we all require the strong support of our family members and friends who will guide us and at times chide us whenever we get off-track. A strong support system plays a very important role in developing healthy habits which will be beneficial not only for us but also for the entire family and community.

  4. 4 Self-Learning


    “Formal education will make you a living; Self-education will make you a fortune” as quoted by Jim Rohn. 

    Every successful/self-made person has an undying desire for learning. They consistently and persistently work on themselves, they are voracious readers, always willing to acquire new skills be it related to cooking or learning new software programs. Learning new skills will help us in understanding the situation from a different perspective, makes us self-reliant, and enable us to think or have an out of box approach.

  5. 5 Result Oriented


    “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard,” as quoted by Tim Notke. 

    If we want to go ahead in life, we have to take action, and that too in the right direction. Hard work does play an important role, however, if we want to get faster and favorable results, we all should have a coach who can understand our Goals and Aims in life. A good coach or mentor plays a very important role in developing our true personality and we are able to face any issue(s) or problem(s) head-on.

  6. 6 Travel


    Traveling plays a very important role in our life. We meet people not only from all walks of life but also from various background and culture, when we travel to different locations and meet different people, we understand life in a better and unique way. Apart from that, the change of people, culture, and environment plays a very important role in developing new skills which help in improving ourselves.

  7. 7 Learn to say No..!!


    “Pleasing others is the first sign of failure” as quoted by John F Kennedy. 

    This is in fact a very important skill which many people don’t have, majority of people succumbed to societal norms as a result get frustrated, and involve themselves in bad habits like drinking, smoking, etc. Try not to be a people pleaser, we can’t satisfy everyone and moreover, rather than focusing on others it’s better and should always be the priority to focus on our family and career. When we are in the company of good people/people who always motivate us only then we are able to become a better version of ourselves which eventually enables us to take favorable decisions in our life.

  8. 8 Decluttering


    It’s very important to remove all unnecessary things from our life by getting out of toxic relationships and always keep away from naysayers. These are the people who always brag about themselves, their achievements, spreads negativity, and look down upon others. Such people are self-centered and always have the tendency of “Me” first which can be detrimental not only for any relationship but also for business at large.

    The aforementioned list is not exhausted as these are only ways/means to develop healthy habits, there can be more to this list but what is more important is to understand how our habits play an important role in our life and we have to really work hard towards cultivating healthy habits which help us in deciding our career and future.
